“Logical” depends upon one’s point of view

Tim Carney at the Washington Examiner questions the President’s logic in making demands for new gun control laws…

Whenever a politician proposes a policy surrounded by children, skepticism is in order. But skepticism, logic and sound argumentation are the enemies of President Obama in his gun control push, which kicked off Wednesday on a White House stage filled with kids.

But Mr. Carney assumes that the point of the new laws is crime reduction; it isn’t. It can’t be.

Obama knows that the Clinton AW ban did nothing to reduce crime. When it passed, the crime rate was already falling. Its passage didn’t change the rate of decline. When it expired, the rate of decline was also unaffected. So the point of a renewed ban can’t be crime reduction.

The point of a new ban is to disarm the People. And from that perspective, the President’s actions are perfectly logical.
